Four home security cameras cost anywhere from about $300 to about $1,020 over three years, and the gap is almost all subscription fees, not hardware. By our arithmetic, a Wyze setup recording to microSD cards totals about $300, while four Google Nest battery cameras plus the Google Home Premium Standard plan total about $1,020. The cameras themselves are a one-time cost. The cloud plan is the part that keeps billing.
All prices below are list or sale prices we saw on manufacturer or retailer pages on October 5, 2026. Sale prices change often, so use the totals as a way to compare, not as a quote.
What the Hardware Costs
Camera prices are the smaller part of the bill:
| Camera | Price seen | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Ring Outdoor Cam (battery) | $39.99 sale, was $79.99 | ring.com product page |
| Ring Outdoor Cam Plus | $99.99 | ring.com product page |
| Wyze Cam v4 | $44.98 | wyze.com product page |
| Google Nest Cam (wired, indoor) | $99.99 | security.org review |
| Google Nest Cam (battery) | $179.99 | security.org review |
| eufy SoloCam S340, 4 cameras plus HomeBase S380 | $899.99 for the kit | eufy.com product page |
Ring’s page also lists professional installation starting at $129.99, which matters if you do not want to mount cameras yourself. Wyze sells microSD cards for its cameras at $18.98 (32 GB), $29.98 (128 GB) and $38.98 (256 GB), per its Cam v4 page. We could not load Google’s own store page, so the Nest prices come from a security.org review rather than Google.

What the Subscriptions Cost
Most brands now keep video history behind a paid plan. Here is what each charges:
| Brand and plan | Price | What it covers |
|---|---|---|
| Ring Solo | $4.99/mo or $49.99/yr | One device |
| Ring Multi | $9.99/mo or $99.99/yr | All devices at one location |
| Ring Pro | $19.99/mo or $199.99/yr | All devices, plus 24/7 professional monitoring |
| Google Home Premium Standard | $10/mo or $100/yr | All cameras on the account, 30 days of event history |
| Google Home Premium Advanced | $20/mo or $200/yr | 60 days of event history, 10 days of 24/7 recording |
| Wyze Cam Plus | $2.99/mo per camera | 14 days of cloud video |
| Wyze Cam Unlimited | $9.99/mo or $99/yr | Unlimited cameras |
| Arlo Secure Plus (one camera) | $9.99/mo, or $7.99/mo billed yearly | 60 days of cloud storage |
| Arlo Secure Plus (unlimited cameras) | $19.99/mo, or $17.99/mo billed yearly | 60 days of cloud storage |
Ring’s figures come from Ring’s Protect plans page, and Wyze’s from its Cam Plus page. Google’s and Arlo’s come from HomeCamCafe’s 2026 plan guides, since we could not read the manufacturers’ pages directly. Google says nothing in these sources about charging per camera, so one plan covers every Nest camera you own.
Per-camera versus whole-account pricing changes the math with each camera you add. Four cameras on Ring Solo would be $199.96 a year, against $99.99 for Ring Multi. Four cameras on Wyze Cam Plus at $2.99 a month would be $143.52 a year, against $99 for Cam Unlimited. Four Arlo cameras on the single-camera plan billed yearly would be $383.52 a year, against $215.88 for the unlimited plan.
The 3-Year Total for Four Cameras
This table adds up four cameras and three years of the cheapest plan that covers all four. It is our arithmetic from the prices above.
| System | Hardware (4 cameras) | Subscription, 3 years | 3-year total | Per month |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Wyze Cam v4 with 128 GB microSD cards, no plan | $299.84 | $0 | $299.84 | $8.33 |
| Ring Outdoor Cam (sale price) with Ring Multi | $159.96 | $299.97 | $459.93 | $12.78 |
| Wyze Cam v4 with Cam Unlimited | $179.92 | $297.00 | $476.92 | $13.25 |
| Ring Outdoor Cam Plus with Ring Multi | $399.96 | $299.97 | $699.93 | $19.44 |
| eufy SoloCam S340 kit with HomeBase, no plan | $899.99 | $0 | $899.99 | $25.00 |
| Google Nest Cam (battery) with Home Premium Standard | $719.96 | $300.00 | $1,019.96 | $28.33 |
Arlo is missing from the table because we did not verify a current Arlo camera price. Its subscription alone would be $647.64 over three years for the unlimited Secure Plus plan billed yearly ($215.88 a year), before buying any cameras.
Two things stand out. The cheapest hardware is not always the cheapest system: the sale-priced Ring cameras cost less than half what the Ring Plus cameras do up front, and the plan is the same either way. And eufy’s higher purchase price pays for a hub with local storage and no monthly fee, so its total stays flat while the cloud systems keep climbing.
Cloud vs Local Storage
Cloud storage keeps footage somewhere a thief cannot reach. If someone steals or smashes the camera, the clip of them doing it has already been uploaded. You pay monthly for that safety, and the history window is limited to what the plan gives you: 30 days on Nest Standard, 14 on Wyze Cam Plus, 60 on Arlo, and up to 180 on Ring’s plans according to Ring’s page.
Local storage is a one-time cost. Wyze’s Cam v4 takes a microSD card up to 256 GB. eufy’s HomeBase stores recordings on the hub, and eufy’s page lists no monthly fee. The trade-off is that footage lives at your house. A thief who takes the camera takes the card, and a hub in the same house is exposed to the same break-in. Ring mentions local video only for the Ring Alarm Pro base station with a microSD card sold separately.
Battery cameras add a second limit. eufy’s page says its battery cameras cannot record 24/7, even with a HomeBase connected, so they save motion-triggered clips only. Continuous recording is a mains-power feature or, on Google, a top-tier plan feature. Plug-in cameras also use some electricity; we did not find a manufacturer wattage to quote, but our appliance electricity cost guide and electric bill estimator show how to price any small always-on device.

Subscription Creep Is the Real Cost
A security camera plan is a recurring bill like any other. Google raised its Home Premium Standard price from $8 to $10 a month and Advanced from $15 to $20 in August 2025, according to HomeCamCafe. Our guides on streaming service prices and AI subscription costs show the same pattern across other categories.
After year three, a cloud plan keeps costing roughly $100 a year on Ring Multi, Google Standard or Wyze Cam Unlimited, and $215.88 a year on unlimited Arlo Secure Plus. A local setup costs nothing more until a card or battery wears out. Over five years the Nest Standard plan alone would total $500, our arithmetic from $100 a year.
If you only need alerts and live view, Google says its free tier includes three hours of event video for the Nest Cam Battery and six hours for the wired indoor and outdoor models, per the security.org review. That is enough to see who rang the bell, but not enough to review last Tuesday.
The Bottom Line
For four cameras over three years, expect about $300 if you record locally and about $460 to $1,020 if you pay for cloud history. Per-camera plans get expensive quickly, so look for the one that covers the whole account. If you want video you can review a week later and you can live with footage staying in your house, microSD or a local hub is the cheapest route. If you want the footage stored off-site, budget about $100 a year for the plan on top of the cameras, and check the price again each year.
FAQ
Do security cameras without a subscription still work?
Yes, for live view and basic motion alerts. Google’s free tier keeps only three to six hours of event video, and Arlo, per HomeCamCafe, does not include free cloud history with newer cameras. For lasting recordings without a plan, choose cameras with microSD or a local hub, such as Wyze and eufy.
Which brand has the lowest total cost?
In our four-camera, three-year comparison, Wyze with microSD cards was cheapest at about $300, followed by sale-priced Ring cameras with Ring Multi at about $460. The order changes if sale prices end or if you need more than four cameras, so recheck before buying.
Is one plan for all cameras cheaper than per-camera pricing?
Past two or three cameras, usually yes. Ring Multi at $99.99 a year costs about the same as two Ring Solo plans at $49.99 each, and Wyze Cam Unlimited at $99 a year beats paying $2.99 a month for four cameras ($143.52 a year).
Does a camera subscription cover professional monitoring?
Not on the entry plans. Ring’s 24/7 professional monitoring starts at the Pro plan, $19.99 a month. Arlo lists professional monitoring with its Premium tier, which runs $24.99 a month billed yearly, per HomeCamCafe.
